Magnetic Compass Adjustment
Adjustment of the magnetic compass is the arranging of magnetic and soft iron correctors in and outside the compass stand. This makes the correctors' effects equal and opposite to the effects of the magnetic material in the ship, thus reducing the deviation error.
The procedure can be performed only by qualified Magnetic Compass Adjuster accordance with SOLAS V/19.2.1 and IMO Res.A.382 (X) requirements.

Remote Magnetic Compass Adjustment
We offer our customers Remote Magnetic Compass Adjustment (RMCA) service which will keep the costs low and under control.
It doesn't require the presence of a Compass Adjuster on board and as a result will not cause a delay of the vessel as well as additional expenses for service arrangements on board.
The compass swing can be done while the vessel is underway towards her next port of call.
Once RMCA service is confirmed our Compass Adjuster will contact the Vessel and guide your crew through following steps:

Refreshment guide for RMCA performormance and data collection.
You will be provided with instructions and the following documents:
- An “At sea guide” for magnetic compass calibrations.
- Magnetic compass fill out form, - form to obtain general data of magnetic compass and current deviation status.

Compass swing and magnetic compass data collection.
Officers on board, following our instructions on performing compass swing will be asked to revert with completely filled Magnetic compass fill out form, with photos of the magnetic compass, B&C magnet locations and soft iron correctors (spheres or plates).

Data evaluation and issuance of new deviation card.
Once received documents are reviewed, our Compass Adjuster will either confirm that RMCA is performed correctly under SOLAS requirements and send the Vessel a new deviation card accompanied with service report, or give the vessel further instructions needed for successful service completion.
Magnetic Compass Adjustment on Board
DH-Marine can arrange Magnetic Compass Adjustment on board on any type of vessel.
Our certified master Compass Adjuster can attend the vessel world-wide, sail along and disembark with pilot-boat after the service is completed. During the compass swing required adjustments will be made, if necessary DH-Marine can supply needed consumables according to the magnetic compass manufacturer and model.
Once the service is completed, you will be provided with a new deviation card accompanied with service report.

Make a contact
Send a request to service@dh-marine.com with maker & model information of the magnetic compass. Make sure to include clear photos of defective magnetic compass bowl. Let us know which spares you have on board. Share with us delivery instructions.

Get an offer
Our Technical team will evaluate received data. You will get an offer for magnetic compass bowl replacement and time frame for the service. We will include calculation for the freight costs if delivery instructions are provided.

Receive a replacement magnetic compass bowl
Once service is confirmed, magnetic compass bowl will be send to you. All magnetic compass bowls are coming with the warranty and calibration certification. Our Technical team will guide you for installation process on board.

Send a defective compass bowl to our workshop
Once you got a replacement unit on board, send to our workshop your defective compass bowl. If it's received by us within 30 days from order, you will get a credit note according to Exchange program offer.

Arrange remote magnetic compass adjustment service
When new magnetic compass bowl is installed, we recommend to use our magnetic compass adjustment service to obtain new deviation card according to IMO Regulations. The service can be arranged world-wide, at time suitable for your vessel schedule. Please check our service options above.

What if magnetic compass bowl can not be repaired?
If magnetic compass bowl can't be repaired, we will offer you refurbished unit on non-exchange basis with warranty and calibration certification. We have a big variety in stock, please check our shop for more details. Our sales team will assist you with any question.

When it is better to choose for Repair program over Exchange program?
Our Repair program is an ideal solution if you can replace defective magnetic compass bowl for a short time with a spare one available on board.
Simply make a contact with us via e-mail service@dh-marine.com and send compass information along with photos of defective magnetic compass bowl.
Our Technical team will evaluate received data and make an offer for Repair service, guide you for temporarily replacement of magnetic compass bowl with the spare one.
No surprises, we have Fixed Rates for Repair program depending on the magnetic compass model. Besides that, Calibration Certificate, which is required by Class and Flag state control, is included in the rate.
